Who are we?

The Vigo Association of Spondylitis Patients of Pontevedra (AVIDEPO) was founded in Vigo in December 1996. It arose from the initiative of a group of patients diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, due to the need to seek and find answers, given the scarce information available to the patient and the chronic nature of this rheumatic disease.

It is a non-political, non-profit association whose commitment is based on advising and informing about the implications of Ankylosing Spondylitis, contributing our knowledge, experience and understanding as people affected by AS.

Legally, it is governed by Organic Law 1/2002, of March 22, on the Right of Association, and registered under number 3145 in the Provincial Delegation of Pontevedra of the Ministry of Justice, Interior and Labor Relations.

The disease

Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) is the prototype disease of the spondyloarthritis group and the one that most intensely tends to involve the joints of the spine and the sacroiliac joints, called axial joints, as opposed to the joints of the extremities (hips, knees, ankles, elbows, etc.), which, together, are called peripheral joints.

Life goes on

Fortunately, research during these years has made great strides both in terms of understanding the disease and its treatments, allowing patients a better quality of life.
